Share your link
Open an incognito browser so you’re not logged in, and open your maps page using 'new maps' or 'explore maps!'.
Your page will have as its header ‘Explore {your map} with {your name}'s favourite places!’. Share this link so people can unlock your map directly.
If you want, you can also share a preview of your map, where travellers will see a small selection of your pins, by scrolling down, clicking on Map Preview, and sharing that link.
A general rule of thumb: build it up
If you post about the destination your map is for, let your content spark curiosity about the map. Give people a taste of your perspective, while leaving them curious about what else you've picked.
Worth mentioning, wherever you share it
- It's a way to see the destination through your eyes, with more details than any single post or article could hold
- Everything's in one place, filterable by what travellers are actually looking for at that moment
- Built for discovery. The map transforms into a travel assistant, showing what's actually open right now and letting travellers add a few of their own spots, like their hotel or the nearest supermarket.
Instagram & Facebook
Tease it
A few weeks before going live, drop a small hint. Something like "I’m working on something I'm really excited to share with you.”
A few days before going live, build a little anticipation. Say you've been working on something new, to make it easier for your followers to explore the way you do, without giving away exactly what it is yet.
Get the basics right
Make it easy for your followers to find and buy your map
- Add your map link to your Linktree (or whichever link-in-bio tool you use), ideally near the top. If you use Facebook, add it to your website.
- Add the link to your Story whenever you mention your map.
To announce it
When your map goes live, start by reminding your followers this is what you've been working on, and tying it back to the teaser you posted earlier. Then explain a bit about it: what's on your map, give them a glimpse of some of your picks, and tell them about Carta Volta, how it makes exploring easier. Say what it actually is: a personal, curated map, fully made by you, that they can use while out exploring. Finish by letting them know: it's live!
Shortly after announcing, give followers the chance to ask questions about your map and learn more about your digital product in an Ask Me Anything format. Not only does it drive interest, but it also gives you content you can reuse.
Group the Q&A afterwards into a Story Highlight, so it stays visible long after the original Stories disappear.
Show them
Give a short demo of your map from the Map Viewer, so followers can see exactly what they'd be getting. A few features worth showing off:
- The map is dynamic, so you always see what's open right now
- Filtering by category, so they can choose exactly what they need in the moment
- Adding their own spots, like their hotel or a place they've discovered along the way
- Instant access: no app, no password needed
Let them know they can try a free preview, so they can experience it themselves before deciding to unlock the full map.
Remind them, naturally
Whenever you post about a destination you have a map for, remind your followers it exists: all your experiences and favourites for that destination, grouped into one handy travel assistant.
For example, a carousel or reel with a few of your favourite spots from the map, or browse through our Instagram for more inspiration.
Turn questions into content
When someone DMs you asking about a specific place, that's your cue to mention your map. Afterwards, group these DMs, comments and reactions into a Story, and let people know they'll find more like this on your map.
TikTok
TikTok works better as a series: small glimpses that build up to your map, rather than one big reveal.
Get the basics right
To add a link in your bio, you need at least 1,000 followers. If you haven't reached that number yet, you can add the link in a comment, pin it, and refer to it in your video or caption.
Making of the map
Film yourself building the map, zoom in on a specific pin, show the place, then cut to you adding it and writing the description. Let people see the process, not just the result.
Using the map yourself
Use your own map while you're out exploring, then write the description afterwards, in a cool bar, back at the hotel, wherever. It's not what you see, it's what you experienced, and that's exactly what you want people to feel like they're a part of.
Through your eyes
Show the destination as you experienced it, then close with: "I put it all together in one travel map."
Day in your life
A day-in-the-life video that naturally passes by 2 to 3 spots from your map, tagged as you go. Or your day on vacation, and in the end a message you grouped all the places you visited into one handy travel assistant.
Vs. lists
A "what locals actually do vs what tourists do" comparison. Or “what I did on my holiday vs what TripAdvisor said to do”.
YouTube
Show it in a real video
Make a video around a destination you have a map for, "how I spent 3 days in X", "what locals actually do in Y", and use your map on screen as you go. Seeing it used in context does more than simply telling people it exists.
Add the link where it counts
Put your map link in the first couple of lines of your video description, that's what's visible before someone clicks "show more". Pin a comment with the link too, and mention it out loud in the video itself, viewers don't always read descriptions.
Use Shorts the way you'd use TikTok
Same idea as TikTok: quick, authentic clips work better than polished announcements. Repurpose the content ideas from your TikTok series here too.
Make several pins from one map
Don't stop at one pin. Turn your map into a handful, each one a separate pin, all linking back to the same map:
- "best restaurants in [destination]"
- "hidden gems in [destination]"
- "3 days in [destination]"
Use the words people would actually type into the titles and descriptions of your pins, like: "things to do in [destination]”.
And don’t forget to add your link to the pin.
Threads / X / WhatsApp
These are text-first, so keep it simple and write it the way you'd normally post.
“If you're ever heading to [destination], I put together a travel map that feels like a travel assistant with everything I'd actually recommend. You’ll find it here: [link]”
“Just got back from [destination], and I had the best time discovering the city. So I mapped every place, or mostly the places that actually stuck with me, in a handy travel assistant. If you're ever there, make sure to check it out: [link]”
Your blog
Keep your content as it, but after wrtiing a blog about it you can add: “Want to explore [destination] the way I did? I've put everything from this article, and more, into a personal map on Carta Volta: the restaurants, the hidden corners, the little things that made this trip what it was. No app needed, just open the link and go: [link]”
Mailing list
If you have a newsletter, dedicate a standalone section to your travel map, ideally with one of the photos alongside it:
“I've put together something new: a way to see [destination] through my eyes. Everything's in one place, laid out clearly on a travel map, filterable by what you're actually looking for. It's built for when you're actually out exploring: you'll only see what's open right now, you can add your own hotel or the nearest supermarket to the map, and where it's useful, there's a direct link to book or reserve. Go check out my digital travel map: [link]”
